Snow Days and Emergency Closings
In the event it becomes necessary to close school for inclement weather or other reasons, or to delay the opening of school by 90 minutes, the following procedure will apply:
  1. The decision to close or delay school will be made by the Superintendent on the basis of the best information available.
  2. Announcements as to the closing of school will be made via media outlets:
    • Phone
      • The district will use AlertNow to send a recorded phone message announcing school closings/delayed openings/early closings to all parents using the phone numbers provided by parents/guardians to each school. 
    • Internet
    • Television
      • WFSB-TV (Charter Cable Channels 3 and 783)
      • WTNH-TV (Charter Cable Channels 8 and 788)
      • WVIT-TV (Charter Cable Channels 4 and 785)
    • Radio

Electronic Notification of School Closing Announcements through www.ctweather.com

This free school closing notification service is provided to you by the Conn Weather Center, Inc. to enable you to receive email notifications when weather-related closings have been posted by any of the participating educational institutions, libraries, organizations, and businesses.  The Mansfield Public Schools, as well as the majority of school districts throughout the state, participates in using the Connecticut Weather Center for posting weather closing announcements.  Now you can be notified at work or home.  The email notification system will inform you of the posting and link you to the Center's home page.  One click on "IAN Cancellations" and a second click on "Schools" will bring you to the posted message.

To register for this free service, go to www.ctweather.com and complete these four easy steps.
  1. In the menu bar at the top, click on "E-Notifications."
  2. Click on "Schools."
  3. Complete the easy registration process by submitting your email address and cell phone number.  You can duplicate this process and submit more than one address if needed.
  4. Within 72 hours, you will receive a confirmation request.  Reply to the request by clicking on the link and follow the directions to access your account and identify the "Mansfield Public Schools" in the pull-down menu.  You must identify and submit the "Mansfield Public Schools" as a notification district -- this is not automatic.  you can identify as many districts as needed by duplicating the identify and submit process.  It's easy and user friendly.
