The Inland Wetland Agency (IWA) is responsible for the effective regulation of land use activities within or proximate to the town’s wetland and watercourse areas. All subdivisions and activities within 150 feet of wetlands or watercourses are within the agency’s jurisdiction. The IWA members are the same as those serving on the
Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC). The Inland Wetland Agent/Assistant Town Engineer and the
Conservation Commission assist the IWA with its establishment of regulations and its evaluation of specific proposals.
The town’s
Inland Wetland Regulations, which are adopted and periodically amended pursuant to statutory authority and public processes, provide standards, guidelines and procedures for application reviews. In conjunction with the IWA’s consideration of land use applications, abutting property owners are notified and alternatives are considered to prevent or minimize impacts to Mansfield’s wetlands and watercourses.
