Our Mission
The Mansfield Downtown Partnership, Inc. seeks to foster the continued development and management of Storrs Center - a vibrant and economically successful mixed-use downtown at the heart of our community. The Partnership will actively assist with the future community and economic development of Four Corners, King Hill Road, and other areas identified by the Town of Mansfield and the University of Connecticut.
The Partnership is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization created by the Town of Mansfield and the University of Connecticut in 2001. The Partnership is governed by a 19-member Board of Directors with a strong committee structure. The Partnership’s six committees – Advertising and Promotion, Business Development and Retention, Finance and Administration, Membership Development, Planning and Design, and Nominating – are one of the direct ways the public can participate in creating our new downtown in Mansfield.
Our Members
The Partnership enjoys the support of over 300 members - individuals, businesses, and representatives from the Town and the University - of all ages and walks of life. Partnership members see the great possibilities that will come with a vibrant downtown with a mix of retail, restaurants, offices, and civic spaces. They recognize the financial benefit of an expanded tax base for Mansfield, which has historically relied heavily on state assistance. Partnership members look forward to the stronger sense of community that will result from having a conveniently-located, pedestrian-oriented center with places for neighbors to meet, to share events and celebrations, and to work together. A Look Ahead
This is an exciting time for the Mansfield Downtown Partnership! The Partnership, the Town, the University, and master developer LeylandAlliance and their partner EDR were pleased to celebrate the ceremonial groundbreaking of Storrs Center on June 29, 2011 with many Partnership members, Mansfield residents, University community members, and local and state leaders.
In August 2012, the first buildings of Storrs Center opened to new residents of The Oaks on the Square and to a broad mix of new and relocated businesses. This first phase, consisting of 1, 9, and 11 Dog Lane and the Storrs Center parking garage, has been welcomed by Mansfield residents and visitors alike. The next building to open will be One Royce Circle in August 2013. Please visit our construction website or www.storrscenter.com for the latest information and updates.
The process of creating a vibrant, successful downtown "from scratch" continues to be a complex undertaking, involving many municipal, state, and federal agencies; private and public partners; and residents. The Partnership looks forward to continuing this work and invites you to join in these efforts!
