13th Annual Celebrate Mansfield Festival
Sunday, September 18

September 13, 2016 – The Mansfield Downtown Partnership invites area residents to gather at the 13th Annual Celebrate Mansfield Festival for music, food, and fun! The excitement begins with the Celebrate Mansfield Parade at noon and continues until 4:00 pm. The Celebrate Mansfield Festival will be Sunday, September 18 on and around the Mansfield Town Square (if it rains, the event will be held inside E. O. Smith High School).

PARADE
Be sure to arrive early to grab a seat on the street because Storrs Road (Route 195) will close at 11:45 am to accommodate the Parade. The UConn Marching Band will anchor an eclectic line-up of community groups, local businesses, sports teams, animals, and larger-than-life puppets from the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry.

Children are invited to ride their bicycle or tricycle with the traditional “Bikes, Tykes, and Trikes.” To be in the Parade, children and their adult(s) should meet at the corner of Storrs Road and South Eagleville Road (Route 275) at 11:00 am. Volunteers will be there to assemble the riders. Cyclists of all ages are required to wear helmets.

Follow the Celebrate Mansfield Parade from the Post Office, up Storrs Road to the Mansfield Town Square, where Festival Chair Betsy Paterson will welcome one and all to the Festival.

ACTIVITIES
Throughout the afternoon, nearly 100 Mansfield businesses and organizations will host activity booths featuring hands-on fun for all ages. UConn’s Dining Services returns to host their popular cooking demonstrations at 1:00 and 1:45 PM. Mansfield restaurants will have a wide variety of food available for purchase, or visitors can take a break at one of the many restaurants found throughout the downtown.

ENTERTAINMENT
This year’s Festival will feature three performances stages! On the Second Stage, near the Nash-Zimmer Transportation Center, there will be a variety of children’s entertainment, including local favorites Kidsville Kuckoo Revue. Their performance will begin shortly after the Parade, at approximately 1:00 PM. Following Kidsville Kuckoo Revue will be Pete Haddad’s Hubba Bubba Magic Show at 2:00 PM and a performance by Mansfield Academy of Dance at 3:00 PM.

UCONN FIRST FOLIO! STAGE
A special addition this year will be the UConn First Folio! Stage. As part of UConn’s programming as Connecticut’s host for the First Folio! Program, there will be Shakespearean-era dance demonstrations, stage fighting demonstrations from Connecticut Repertory Theatre’s upcoming production of King Lear, and tours of an antique printing press. At 2:00 PM, E. O. Smith and UConn students will participate in a Shakespearean Monologue Slam, which will include performances by puppets from the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry’s Community Puppet-Building Workshop. The UConn First Folio! Stage will be located on Dog Lane, near Husky Pizza.

BRONZE RADIO RETURN
Performing on the stage of the Jeffery P. Ossen Family Foundation Pavilion on the Mansfield Town Square will be Bronze Radio Return. Since 2008, the Hartford, CT six-piece has independently sold over 100,000 singles, racked up more than 26 million streams on Spotify, and, with songs such as “Further On” and “Shake, Shake, Shake,” they have impressively notched nearly one hundred high-profile placements including the 2014 film St. Vincent. Along the way, their hyper-charged and hypnotic stage presence has turned bystanders into believers at festivals including Firefly, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza.

Armed with a sound that’s one part indie dance party and another part roots rock laced with a pop sensibility, the music of Bronze Radio Return is begging to be blared with the windows rolled down. It’s nearly impossible not to fall in love with the rousing, cinematic soundscape on their most recent album, Light Me Up. The band’s songs draw listeners in and inspire an undeniable urge to dance and sing along!

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER
Opening for Bronze Radio Return at 1:00 PM will be Air Traffic Controller. Serving in the US Navy as an air traffic controller, singer/songwriter Dave Munro sent home demos written during deployment. Band-mate and singer/songwriter Casey Sullivan met Dave soon thereafter, and the two forged a collaborative bond that has become the vocal sound of ATC. Their eclectic song catalog and category-defying organic/electronic sound are gaining notice. Air Traffic Controller were 2015 Billboard Hot 100 Fest performers with The Weeknd and Justin Bieber, placed on the NPR Hot 100 List for SXSW, won Best Indie Alternative Song for "You Know Me" in the Independent Music Awards, and have over 15 million Spotify plays. Their most recent album, Black Box, was released earlier this year.
