Hair Cuttery and Wingstop Coming to Storrs Center
Storrs Center Continues to Attract New Businesses

September 18, 2014 – Two more businesses have signed leases in Storrs Center according to Daryl Krivanec, Senior Director of Investment Management with Hart Realty Advisers, Inc. of Simsbury, Connecticut.  Hair Cuttery and Wingstop will be located in a 5,000 square foot building, recently purchased by Hart on behalf of the Connecticut Retirement Plans and Trust Funds, at the intersection of Storrs Road and Charles Smith Way, adjacent to Price Chopper.  Both businesses are expected to open in the first quarter of 2015.  A total of three businesses are planned for this building and discussions are underway with several potential tenants for the final space available for lease.

Storrs Center will be the newest location for Hair Cuttery, born in West Springfield, VA in 1974.  Today, it represents the largest family-owned and operated chain of hair salons in North America.  The brainchild of Dennis and Ann Ratner, Hair Cuttery now encompasses approximately 12,000 associates with over 750 salons in 16 states.  The phenomenal growth of the company can be traced back to its original business model which consisted of three concepts – convenience, price, and consistency.

Matt Rusconi and David Vorchheimer, who already own and operate Moe’s Southwest Grill and Mooyah Burgers & Fries in Storrs Center, will open Wingstop.  “We have believed in the vision for Storrs Center from the beginning,” said Rusconi, who is a native of eastern Connecticut and passionate about seeing the area’s towns and cities thrive.  “We are dedicated to the growth and success of Storrs Center and the surrounding communities, and we’re excited to bring Wingstop here as the restaurant’s first New England location.”  Wingstop has sold over 2 billion wings since it landed on the food scene in 1994 with the idea of serving the ultimate buffalo-style chicken wings and providing a superior guest experience at an exceptional value.  The company’s sole focus is on saucing and tossing wings, boneless wings, and strips that are cooked-to-order and served piping hot with a choice of flavors.

Storrs Center is a mixed-use town center and main street corridor at the crossroads of the Town of Mansfield, Connecticut and the University of Connecticut.  Planned and developed by the Mansfield Downtown Partnership, Inc., the Town of Mansfield, the University of Connecticut, master developer LeylandAlliance LLC, and residential development partner EdR, Storrs Center includes over 100,000 square feet of commercial space, including restaurants, retail shops, offices, and a grocery store now open.  An additional 16,000 square feet of commercial space will open in the fall of 2014, and a further 35,000+/- square feet of commercial space will be open by the end of 2015.

Storrs Center also includes 414 apartment homes within the first two phases, with 204 more apartments anticipated to open in August 2015.  In addition, 40 to 45 market-rate residential homes, called the “Main Street Homes,” are expected to begin construction next year.
