Shared Cars Now Available in Storrs
Vehicles available on campus and in Downtown Storrs

January 29, 2018 – Mansfield residents have a new option to get around without owning a vehicle. Shared cars are now available at the parking garage in Downtown Storrs and at several locations on the UConn campus. These cars are available for use by both Mansfield residents and UConn students, faculty, and staff who enroll in a national shared car program. For more information about the program, please inquire at the front desk of the Nash-Zimmer Transportation Center.

“The Mansfield Downtown Partnership is excited to be able to help bring this program to Downtown Storrs,” said Partnership Executive Director Cynthia van Zelm. “A shared car program adds to the number of alternative transportation options for local residents at the Nash-Zimmer Transportation Center.”

Car-sharing is a convenient option for residents who prefer not to own a vehicle or need a different type of vehicle for a specific trip. With a car stationed in the downtown parking garage, residents can also easily access bus service by UConn Transportation, Windham Region Transit District (WRTD), CTtransit, and Peter Pan.

UConn Transportation, WRTD, CTtransit, and Peter Pan run daily service during the week, and all but UConn offer weekend service (WRTD is Saturday only). Additionally, UConn Transportation offers a free Gameday Shuttle for fans to travel from Downtown Storrs to Gampel Pavilion on UConn’s campus for Men’s and Women’s Basketball games.

The Nash-Zimmer and the downtown parking garage also feature support for additional transportation alternatives, including bicycles and electric vehicles. On the first floor of the garage, there are four electrical vehicle charging stations available for public use (parking fees apply). At the Nash-Zimmer, there are bicycle racks outside available to all, while members of the Town of Mansfield’s Bicycle Commuter Club can enjoy indoor bicycle storage, showers, and lockers.

The lobby of the Nash-Zimmer Transportation provides ample, indoor waiting room for bus commuters. The lobby is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Outdoors, an overhang protects many benches to shelter commuters when the lobby is closed.

For more information about all of these transportation services and options, please inquire at the front desk of the Nash-Zimmer Transportation Center (23 Royce Circle, Storrs, CT 06268) or visit
