Weekly Music Series Debuts in Storrs Center

Local Musicians Play Every Saturday from 2-4 PM

November 16, 2012 – Live music has arrived in Storrs Center!  Every Saturday for the remainder of the year, local musicians will play at the new Storrs Center town center.  This Saturday, the Jan Jungden Trio (www.janjungdentrio.com) is featured and will play from 2 to 4 p.m.  The event is free and the public is invited to make day of it and explore all of the new shops and restaurants now open at Storrs Center.

The Jan Jungden Trio infuses a carefully chosen jazz repertoire with a sound that is truly their own. Jan's keyboard versatility keeps things interesting whether she is swinging with the band or burning up a solo on piano or organ. She surprises her audience by switching to flute to break up the instrumentals or singing a standard a la Diana Krall or an original composition. Fred Fagan has ability to be comfortable whether walking through a jazz standard on upright bass, or snappin' and poppin' on electric bass, and Justin Blackburn keeps things moving with his traditional jazz drumming as well as his natural feel for Latin and funk rhythms.

The music series continues with the following line-up of musicians throughout the remainder of the year:

Saturday, Nov. 17 – Jan Jungden Trio

Saturday, Nov. 24 – The Recliners

Saturday, Dec. 1 – Curtis Brand

Saturday, Dec. 8 – The Conn-Men (2-3 p.m.); Spencer Hamlin (3-4 p.m.)

Saturday, Dec. 15 – The Recliners

Saturday, Dec. 22 – Full Gael

Saturday, Dec. 29 – Mike Casey Jazz Quartet

######################

Storrs Center is a mixed-use town center and main street corridor at the crossroads of the Town of Mansfield, Connecticut and the University of Connecticut.  Located along Storrs Road adjacent to the University, the Town Hall, the regional high school, and the community center, Storrs Center will include a new town square across from the University’s fine arts center and will combine retail, restaurant, and office uses with a variety of residence types.  The town center plan will knit thoughtful architecture, pedestrian-oriented streets, and public spaces into a series of small neighborhoods that will make up the new fabric of the town center.  Ground floor retail and commercial uses opening onto landscaped sidewalks will reinforce traditional street front activity and will be supported by residences above and shared community spaces.
