Applications for employment shall be accepted only for posted vacancies. Each candidate shall complete the employment application. Resumes, transcripts, certifications, and other materials may be required in order to judge the applicant's fitness for service with the Town. Applications shall not be returned, but will remain on file for at least two years, after which they may be destroyed with approval from the State Records Administrator. Human Resources may reject any application which was not filed by the announced closing date for receiving applications, unless prior to such date an extension had been publicly announced. Building and Housing Inspection Department - Temporary Housing Inspector

The Town is seeking a temporary part-time housing inspector.  Duties include conducting site inspections and housing code enforcement activities and working with landlords, tenants and other parties to obtain compliance. The preferred candidate will have considerable experience in code enforcement and inspection work, as well as strong communication skills and good ability to deal with the public.

Salary range $23.41/hr-$29.78/hr; hiring rate DOQ.It is estimated that the selected candidate will work 2-3 days per week through the end of calendar year 2014, with the possibility of the assignment being extended depending upon workload needs of the Department.

Current certification as an Assistant Building Official or Residential Building Inspector preferred. The selected candidate will be subject to a background check.

Department of Human Services - Interim Van Driver

The Town is looking to fill a part-time interim (grant funded) van driver position in the Senior Services Division of Human Services.  Duties include driving a van to transport seniors participating in Mansfield’s transportation program.   $14.58-$17.55/hr, appx. 15 hrs/wk. Possession of a public service driver’s license valid in the State of Connecticut required. Public Library & Information Technology Departments - Systems Librarian

The Town of Mansfield is seeking applicants for our full-time Systems Librarian position. Under the direction of the Public Library and Information Technology Department Heads, this position serves as the first line of support for the use of electronic resources and library technologies. The Systems Librarian provides leadership and expertise in the development, implementation, maintenance, and use of technology by library staff and the public. Sample duties include: computer management and troubleshooting; planning and implementation of new technology; routine security and hardware maintenance; creating and maintaining the library’s website; and social media.

Position is full-time with benefits package. Hiring rate is $30.62-$32.94 per hour and is dependent upon the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. Candidates are required to have a master’s degree in library science or a related field (or MLIS degree/related degree conferred by December 2014) supplemented by experience with developing, implementing, and maintaining library technologies. Formal coursework in computer science and experience with Wordpress theme development, Windows Server 2008, Envisionware, and Sierra products highly desirable. Public library experience is preferred. Assistant Town Engineer - Engineering Division, Public Works Department 

The Town is seeking an experienced engineering professional to serve as the Assistant Town Engineer.  This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the Engineering Division and Transportation programs for the Town.  Sample duties include supervising staff, managing capital projects, conducting professional engineering work, and supporting the work of Town committees, boards, and commissions. 

Position is full-time with benefits package. Salary range is $65,192-$82,410/yr and is dependent upon the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.Candidates are required to have a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, supervisory experience, and be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Connecticut or a state that has reciprocity with Connecticut. Municipal experience and a Master’s degree highly desirable.

Recreation Supervisor (Aquatics) - Parks and Recreation Department

The Town is seeking an experienced Aquatics professional to serve as a Recreation Supervisor for the Parks and Recreation Department.  This position manages a variety of recreation programs, activities, and aquatic related facilities.  Sample duties include planning, organizing, overseeing and supervising indoor and outdoor recreation and aquatic programs, staff and operations and contributing to pool maintenance. 

Position is full-time with benefits package. Salary range is $51,470- $65,192 per year and is dependent upon the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.Candidates are required to have a Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation management or related field and considerable experience in community aquatic programming and swimming pool operations. 

Possession of CPR, first aid, lifeguard, and water safety certifications and driver’s license are required.  Aquatic Facility Operator’s license required or must be obtained within six-months of hire. Recognition by the National Recreation and Parks Association as a Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) is desirable.  The selected candidate will be subject to a background check.

Building Inspector (Interim) - Building and Housing Inspection Department

The Town of Mansfield is seeking an experienced building official or assistant building official to serve as an interim building inspector. The interim building inspector will assist the Department by conducting residential and commercial code enforcement duties throughout the Town as a whole. The construction of Storrs Center, a mixed use urban development is currently underway. The Four Corners area of Town is also experiencing construction and revitalization activity. 

Salary range $22.95/hr-$29.20/hr; hiring rate DOQ. Pro-rated benefits are offered to interim employees working full-time. It is estimated that the selected candidate will work full-time through the end of calendar year 2014, and then 2-3 days per week for part of 2015 depending upon workload needs of the Department. Current certification as a building official or assistant building official is required. The selected candidate will be subject to a background check.

Child Care Workers

Looking for responsible people to work at the Community Center Child Care Room, which is, a drop in care program for children ages 1-7.  Some experience working with children preferred. Hours are varied with morning and evening shifts available.  Part-time positions, no benefits, $8.70 - $10.16 /hr.  Selected candidates will be subject to a background check. Fitness Assistants

The Mansfield Parks and Recreation Department is hiring Fitness Assistants who will strive to maintain a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment in the Mansfield Community Center fitness center for our members and guests.  Handling and lifting various weight and fitness equipment is required.

As an employee of the Town of Mansfield you will be offered a professional orientation, flexible scheduling including early morning, evening and weekend hours, comprehensive staff training, CPR and First Aid certification training, uniforms, and a fun and challenging work environment.  All Fitness Assistants must obtain and maintain a current CPR & First Aid certification.  Opportunities for certification will be provided if necessary.  This is an entry level, part-time, hourly position with no benefits.  Pay range is $8.83 - $10.73/hr. Selected candidates will be subject to a background check.

Lifeguard and Swim Instructors

Lifeguard and Swim Instructor position openings for the 2014 late spring/summer season. All applicants must be certified and hold current certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid. Starting rates are $8.70/hr for Lifeguard and $9.45/hr for swim instructors.

Fitness Instructors (Parks & Recreation)

The Mansfield Parks and Recreation Department is searching for new Fitness Instructors, primarily for strength & toning, hula hooping, and step classes.  Work schedule is variable including evenings and weekends, with possibility for more hours as subs are needed.  Hiring pay rate is $18/hr-$24/hr depending on certifications and experience.
