[ARCHIVED] New Mansfield Elementary School Open House Celebration June 10

Mansfield Public Schools and the Town of Mansfield are hosting a Celebration Open House at the new Mansfield Elementary School on Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 12 noon to 3 PM. The new elementary school is located at 132 Warrenville Road, (Rte. 89) in Mansfield Center.

The school is the first new net-zero elementary school in Connecticut, and opened its doors to students on April 18 and 19.  The Open House Celebration will include self-guided interior and exterior tours of the new facility with detailed descriptions of each area, with staff on hand to answer questions.  The tour is also part of the statewide Connecticut Open House Day events.

“We have hosted several opportunities for community members and families to tour our new school throughout this spring,” says Superintendent Peter Dart, “but this celebration opens the doors to anyone throughout the region who has not been afforded the chance to see Mansfield’s amazing new school. We are so proud of this—the Mansfield community has made an incredible investment in students and 21st teaching and learning here.”

The Town of Mansfield will also offer informational tables at the event, with exhibits from Human Services, Youth Services, Downtown Storrs, and Mansfield Public Library.  The Mansfield Fire Department will also be on hand with fire and ambulance apparatus for families to see. The Mansfield Historical Society, which has staged an exhibit about the history of schools in Mansfield in the Great Hall of the new school, will also provide information.  BikeMansfieldCT, a non-profit organization that is collaborating with Mansfield Elementary School to develop a bicycling curriculum, will also attend.

Additional highlights of the day will be live music by the Gideon Ampeire Band and Echo Uganda, along with refreshments for purchase from Tacos la Rosa and ice cream food trucks.

The new elementary school is hosting a private ribbon-cutting ceremony during school hours on Friday, June 9 for students and staff, members of the School Building Committee, elected officials and invited guests.  This Open House is an extended part of this celebration.
