Mansfield has prided itself in keeping waste down to a minimum. Compared to the Connecticut average of 800 pounds of trash per person per year, Mansfield's annual per capita waste has been under 500 pounds. The annual amount of residential trash is on the rise. Mansfield residents produced 514 pounds of trash per person in 2024 compared to 491 pounds in 2023. Minimizing waste means saving money by subscribing to a smaller trash service. Recycling metal cans, aluminum foil and trays, printed paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars and rigid plastic containers and composting food scraps are just two ways to reduce waste.
