[ARCHIVED] Motor Vehicle Values

Town of Mansfield_Charter Oak Logo_PropAssess_color

Now that motor vehicle tax bills have been received, you may notice that the value of your motor vehicle increased from last year. Unfortunately, this is not an error. Car values have increased significantly in the past two years. Some links to news articles on this topic are contained herein.

Please note: the Assessor is tasked by state law to value most motor vehicles at 70% of their clean (average) retail value. The state also directs the usage of National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) guides to obtain that value. Because of the sheer number of motor vehicles to be valued, no adjustments are made for condition or mileage.

Connecticut General Statutes Sec. 12-110 allows for assessment appeal to Board of Assessment Appeals, which meets in September to hear motor vehicle appeals. Please see the link below about this Board.
