[ARCHIVED] Superintendent Dart Updates Families

Town of Mansfield_Charter Oak Logo_Public Schools_color

Dear Mansfield Families & Staff:

I am writing to share information regarding bus transportation and the opening of school for tomorrow, Thursday, September 8th, 2022, for all PreK through grade 8 students.

The recent issues with our bus company and the closure of school today created hardships for our students and families. At the same time, we recognize that we have had a long standing and successful relationship with our bus company.  In addition, we understand that our Bus Drivers are committed to keeping students safe and working hard to adjust to changes.  We appreciate their dedication and service.  Yet, on Tuesday we clearly did not experience the service or support our community expects for our students.

Today, we moved forward by continuing to vet data, review procedures to maximize efficiencies, communicate with the bus vendor, and create additional resources and tools that will be used to help improve communication and accountability.  The Chief Operating Officer from the bus company shared that, “The team made fantastic progress today.”  We are hopeful that our community will see this progress tomorrow.  At the same time, we must continue to acknowledge the hardship of staffing shortages. To this point, we received information that Buses 1, 4, and 12 will not run tomorrow (9/8/22) and that we should expect delays.  Other bus drivers will be re-routed to pick these students up. As always, families may opt to drop off and pick up students.  Tomorrow will be the second day of these new runs, so as always, please anticipate some minor delays as we get used to the new schedules and traffic patterns.

I have attached the revised elementary and middle school bus schedules that I received late today.  Please review and note changes.  We understand that some families may not see their address and have been advised that more updates/communications are coming.  Please call your child’s school for help.

Finally, communication is critical and we want to support our families.   Please use the information below to reach our offices.  Email is often the best way to communicate.  Our office staff and administrators will stay onsite until all students are home.
