Parks and Recreation is managing the installment of the new playground at the Mansfield Library. Mansfield Public Works will be completing subbase site preparation. M.E. O’Brien Inc. of Medway, MA will be completing installation of the new playground and poured-in-place rubberized surfacing. Elements of the playground include a focus on features for 2-5 year olds but is also welcoming to those younger and older. It will contain elevated play, ground level play, sensory play, social emotional play, and cognitive creative play. The level of inclusion and universal play is dramatically increased with the new design and does not require a person to transfer from a mobility device (e.g. wheelchair) to experience interacting and playing with peers in most areas. Many features introduce music, rocking, and spinning. It also promotes a sensory component and introduces a multi-generational concept where adults and seniors can play beside children. The primary components of the playground include; Farmers Market Café and Loft, a musical instrument garden, motion elements, and two decorative flower accent pieces to connect the playground to the adjacent garden on the site.
