Good evening Mansfield Families:
Last night the leadership team presented our annual Report of Progress to the Board of Education that focused on our District Development Plan Mansfield Development Plan_2022_FINAL2 (1).pdf .
As you know, the Development Plan is built around our district’s six Core Beliefs that includes Building Partnerships with our families. Everyday I think about the importance of this belief, especially given the many challenges we have recently experienced with transportation. I am truly sorry we have not provided the level of busing services our students deserve. The week ended with the unacceptable reality that three of our buses did not have drivers and that other bus runs had to be combined due to driver shortages. Given the lack of buses this week, we did not see the expected progress in spite of the improved schedules, communication, and routes. The MPS team will continue to focus on anything we can do to help our vendor improve services and support our families. We will see improvements and I know that these challenges will not distract us from our core work of knowing students, supporting the whole child, and ensuring deep learning.
Please help promote the hiring of new bus drivers. Do you know someone with experience and the right credentials to drive a school bus? Or, as a family shared with me, consider supporting neighbors who might need help with ride shares or child care when buses are delayed. As always, continue to advocate for what is best for our children. Below are two upcoming events you may be interested in given our district’s issue with transportation:
- Next Thursday, September 29, 2022, the Board of Education Transportation Committee will meet to review policy, make recommendations, and listen to public comments. This meeting will be held at Mansfield Middle School starting at 7:00pm.
- I am also inviting you to attend our monthly Family Advisory Team meetings that we will hold each month, starting on Tuesday, October 4th, 2022. These meetings will provide an opportunity for families to ask questions and learn more about our district. Please see the attached flyer: Family Advisory Team Flyer.pdf
I hope you have a restful weekend. For those attending the Celebrate Mansfield Festival tomorrow, please stop by Mansfield Public School’s table to say hi.
