Mansfield Schools Selects Danielle Vliet as Middle School Assistant Principal

Mansfield, CT   October 28, 2022 – Mansfield Public Schools Superintendent Peter Dart has announced that Danielle Vliet has been selected to lead as Assistant Principal of Mansfield Middle School (MMS).  She is moving into the position created when Larry Barlow was promoted to Principal of MMS after serving as Assistant Principal at the middle school for eight years.

In a letter to staff members and families, Mr. Dart shared, “Danielle, who will officially start her tenure in Mansfield on Monday, comes to us with a strong background in middle school education and leadership.  She has served as an Interim Assistant Principal, Instructional Technology Specialist, Athletic Director, and Social Studies Teacher in Ellington, CT.”

Danielle has a BA in History and Adolescent Education from St John Fisher University, a Masters in Educational Technology from Boise State University, and a 6th Year Certificate from Central Connecticut State University in Educational Leadership.

Superintendent Dart describes that a committee comprised of teachers, staff, families, and administrators reviewed applications, identified candidates, and conducted first round interviews from among a robust group of candidates, including the completion of a performance task.  Three highly qualified candidates moved forward in the process and were interviewed by district leaders.  The second round also included another rigorous performance task.

He also acknowledges that Danielle’s references, performance tasks, and interviews illuminated the best practices in middle school education that aligns to the work within the district and at MMS.   In her interview, she stressed the importance of being an effective communicator and working collaboratively to build the best environment for learners.

Mansfield Middle School serves Grades 5 to 8 and was named a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School. In 2021, U.S. News & World Report Magazine ranked Mansfield Middle School 18th out of 304 middle schools in Connecticut based on 2019 performance on state-required tests, graduation, and how well students are prepared for high school.
