The Town of Mansfield will conduct a public involvement meeting concerning the proposed Downtown Loop Closure Project on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023. The meeting will begin at 6:00pm. Preliminary design has been completed by the Town and the project is slated for construction under the Surface Transportation Program administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
It is the Town's and the State's policy to keep persons informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns to assist in the project's development. The Town will conduct an informational meeting on May 16th, 2023 at 6:00pm in the Town of Mansfield Council Chamber at 4 South Eagleville Road, Mansfield, CT 06268.
This project consists of the construction of the last remaining two segments of Trail in this larger loop. Both locations propose an 8-10’ paved multi-use trail connecting to existing walkways and multi-use trails.
One location will be along the south side of South Eagleville Road between Maple Road and Separatist Road and will require a small wall to retain the existing embankment. The second location, is on the southeast side of Hunting Lodge Road Extension from Separatist Road to North Eagleville Road and will require construction of a small bridge over Eagleville Brook.
This walk/trail system sees a fairly high volume of commuters, joggers, walkers, bikers, wheelchairs, and destination users, however, without the completed off-road facility there are a number of groups of people that will not walk these sections or other portions of the system. Based upon a preliminary assessment, the construction cost will be approximately $1,450,000.
The Federal Highway Administration / CT Department of Transportation will provide 80% of the construction cost with the Town providing 20%.
In accordance with PA 21-2 § 149, meeting participants may also attend virtually.
