What an honor for Mansfield Public Schools to host a group of Dutch educators on Monday, October 23. The group was visiting UConn's Neag School of Education and Professor Brandi Simonsen to expand learning about Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. PBIS is an evidence-based framework supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health.
Mansfield Elementary and Mansfield Middle School are incorporating PBIS into daily learning and routines. District teachers, behavior technicians, building leaders and visitors met in small groups to talk about their PBIS practices with students in the classroom and coaching teachers. The educators also toured MES classrooms to observe teaching and learning, observed dismissal and bus pick-up (school buses are not common in Holland,) and learned about the building's net-zero energy systems.
The guests also presented Assistant Principal Becky Granatini with a bag of gifts representing Holland. One visitor shared that MES was the most beautiful school building they had seen in the U.S.
