November 5, 2019 - The Mansfield Downtown Partnership invites local businesses in Mansfield to be a part of the 10th Annual Small Business Saturday presented by AmericanExpress on Saturday, November 30. The Partnership is the “Neighborhood Champion” for Mansfield and looks forward to a great day celebrating all the unique businesses in town!
In an effort to support local shops that make our communities strong, AmericanExpress launched Small Business Saturday on the Saturday after Thanksgiving in 2010 to encourage people to “Shop Small” and bring more holiday shopping to small businesses. The event quickly gained momentum and by 2011, there were participants in all fifty states. According to AmericanExpress, “In 2018, U.S. consumers reported spending a record high of an estimated $17.8 billion at independent retailers and restaurants on Small Business Saturday. Over the years, Small Business Saturday spending has now reached a reported estimate of $103 billion since the day began in 2010 — that's $103 billion over 9 days alone.”1
In Mansfield, the Partnership has helped coordinate Small Business Saturday activities for the past three years and first served as Mansfield’s official “Neighborhood Champion” in 2018.
Businesses that are interested in participating in Small Business Saturday can sign up via the Town of Mansfield’s website for the event: mansfieldct.gov/shopsmall. Businesses must qualify per AmericanExpress’ guidelines. Information on the guidelines as well as frequently asked questions are available on their website, shopsmall.com.
The Partnership will add all Mansfield businesses participating in Small Business Saturday to the Town’s website along with information about any special offers, sales, and celebrations. The Partnership will also work to get the word out about this fun event to residents and visitors. Participation in this program is free and open to all businesses who qualify per AmericanExpress' guidelines, as noted above.
Interested businesses can contact the Mansfield Downtown Partnership with any questions about Small Business Saturday: mdp@mansfieldct.org or 860.429.2740.
1 This spend statistic is an aggregate of the average spend as reported by consumers in surveys commissioned by American Express reporting spend habits on Small Business Saturday of consumers who were aware of the day. It does not reflect actual receipts or sales. Each such survey was conducted among a nationally representative sample of U.S. adults. The surveys had an overall margin of error of between +/- 2.0% and +/- 5.47%, at the 95% level of confidence. The data was projected from the samples based on then-current U.S. Census estimates of the U.S. adult population (18+).
