Mansfield Public Schools staff will participate in scheduled Professional Development on October 15, and will host educational pioneer Ron Berger at their session.

Mr. Berger, known as a teacher’s teacher, is Chief Academic Officer of Expeditionary Learning Education, Inc. in Massachusetts.  He is also a renowned author of seven books on forward-thinking education concepts, including An Ethic of Excellence, Leaders of their Own LearningLearning that Lasts and A Culture of Quality.  He has also taught at Harvard Graduate School of Education. Prior to joining EL full-time in 2004, Ron worked for more than 25 years as a public school teacher and master carpenter.  He is known for his work with “Models of Excellence”, a collection of high-quality PreK-12 student work which serves to inspire educators about what’s possible in the classroom.

“We have studied Ron’s work closely in Mansfield,” says Candace Morell, Mansfield’s Director of Teaching and Learning.  “It continues to be the exemplar that we refer to as we continue to build out practices connected to student exhibitions, portfolios and student-led conversations and celebrations.  The opportunity to work alongside a master teacher of the caliber of Mr. Berger is an honor.  We are certain that this will be a day that sparks teacher thinking about the infinite possibilities for the year ahead,” she adds.

Mr. Berger will address Mansfield teachers as the keynote speaker and facilitate an afternoon workshop focused on cultivating a culture of authentic learning experiences for all learners.  An invitation has been extended to Ashford, Willington and Region 19 to attend the professional learning experience.

Mr. Berger’s work aligns with the Mansfield Public Schools strategies to Know Students, Support the Whole Child, and Ensure Deep Learning.  A critical part of achieving the mission of the district is to Grow Educators, one of six Core Beliefs that drives the district’s work.
