[ARCHIVED] Mansfield’s Food Rescue Network is Here to Assist—Don’t Toss Catering Leftovers—Rescue Them.

With the beginning of November, many of our neighbors in this region will have no SNAP benefits available to help pay for family groceries as a result of the government shutdown. We also know that this season of the year there is an increase of family gatherings and celebrations in our community.

Please help solve the SNAP gap. If you are planning a catered event at your home, your place of worship, at work, or with your organization, consider beforehand how you will handle the leftovers and plan for it.  Food waste is a terrible waste, especially when neighbors are in need.

The Town of Mansfield and volunteers have made it easy to connect edible leftovers to people in need with a food rescue network. To participate, contact the Mansfield Recycle Coordinator prior to the event to make arrangement for pick-up. It is free and as easy as an e-mail or phone call.

For more information, go to https://www.mansfieldct.gov/DocumentCenter/View/23072/Food-Rescue---Catering. More than ever we need properly handled leftovers from catered events to go to hungry people.
