2020 HOLIDAYS FOR MANSFIELD RESIDENTS FINANCIALLY STRUGGLING

As the year progresses toward the holiday season we are all faced with the challenge of how to spend the holidays with love ones while staying safe. This season can be especially difficult for those experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19. Some residents are finding themselves for the first time asking for assistance as businesses have cut back on staff and hours. We are asking our community members who are able to donate to our Holiday programs.

Last year through the generous donations from the community, the Human Services Department provided families with thanksgiving and holiday meals as well as gifts in December through our Holiday programs. This year our programs have been carefully reviewed and developed with everyone’s safety in mind. In lieu of gifts being purchased we are requesting gift cards or monetary donations be sent to our office. Gifts cards from local businesses as well as retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Target, GameStop, and Kohl’s are greatly appreciated. Gift cards can be dropped off at our secure Human Services drop box or mailed to Human Services, 303 Maple Road, Mansfield, CT 06268 by November 17th, 2020 for distribution. We realize purchasing a gift card may not feel as special as purchasing a gift from a wish list and we acknowledge this. However, this program is especially important during COVID-19 and the search for the best possible way to make this safe for everyone was top priority.

If you have questions about how you can participate in donating gift cards or monetary donations for the holidays, please call our main number at 860-429-3315 or e-mail human.services@mansfieldct.org. Monetary donations are accepted until the end of December and can be mailed or dropped off at the Human Service Office, Mansfield Senior Center, 303 Maple Road, Mansfield, CT 06268. Please make checks payable to “Town of Mansfield” with “Human Services Holiday Program” in the memo area.
